Precision and

Flexibility

In its most basic use, the Bolt holds a camera very steadily and can maneuver the shot through creative angles and hard-to-reach places. Camera movement can include orbital moves, extreme closeups on products, quick snaps from close to wide, and smooth tracking shots with precise control over focus points.

The lens floats out on the end of an arm, so sneaking it into tight locations or finding new creative perspectives is easy.

And, all the moves can be repeated pixel-perfect over and over again. Today, tomorrow, or next year.

Then there is speed.

The Bolt is fast. Really fast. This speed is essential when working in Slow Motion. Zipping from a closeup to a wide shot while pulling focus is nearly impossible when done by hand.

Sloooooow

Motion

Our BOLT is paired with a Phantom Veo 4k slow-motion camera. It can film up to 1000 frames per second in 4k.

That means a shot filmed at 1000 frames for 1 second, slowed down to the broadcast standard of 30 frames per second, would be about a 30-second shot - the length of a standard TV commercial. 1 second slowed to 30 seconds. A lot can happen in that time. Within that second, we have complete control over each frame and we can place the camera exactly where we want it. We can program the focus points (you won’t see an out-of-focus move in 1 second, but you can’t miss it during the 30-second playback).

Rehearse and improve moves, trigger props (a hamburger drop, a soda spin, a spray of water,   a flamethrower, some bubbles falling from the sky, a guitar landing in a country music singers hands, a paint sprayer, breaking glass, a bottle pouring 18-year single malt - or some less expensive stand in liquid, etc…) and rehearse it over and over until we’re happy with the results.

Slow Motion is cool, but motion inside of slow motion is even cooler, and the robo is the way to get that.

Overlays and

Change-In-Place

What if you had twelve flavors of soda cans? In one fluid movement, we could cut from one branded can to the next making it appear like the label is changing before our eyes.

What if you have an extensive line of products - like a lot of cupcakes? We could rifle through all of them in the same movement and moment to really send home the point that you have options.

Because a robot move is completely repeatable, we can play with precision video overlays - while in motion! Let’s say you have a product and then a version of that same product where the outside has been cut away to reveal the inside components. The products can be lined up perfectly and filmed with the exact same move to create a seamless transition showing the product inside and out.

Macros and

Closeups

The Bolt excels at extreme closeup macro photography. Jewelry, mechanical parts, watches, complex machinery. It opens brand new doors for industrial product capture and explainer videos.

Text, logos, and graphics can be tracked to “stick” to objects enhancing the informative impact of the film. Macro lenses are simply too hard to move by hand while maintaining focus. The robot handles this work with ease.

Automation

The Bolt software allows us to program and control other automation systems such as turntables, stepper motors, solenoids, hydraulics, light sensors, electric motors, etc.

If it starts and/or stops with an electric current, we can trigger it to activate at the precise moment we need it to. This is especially important when working in slow motion.

These are only a few of the applications that are possible with the Bolt and we love to brainstorm with our clients. To learn more, drop us a line and schedule a call or appointment.

We look forward to hearing your ideas!
